Amazon Secures OpenAI in Multi-Billion Dollar Infrastructure Deal

OpenAI just made its biggest infrastructure bet yet, and it's not with Microsoft…

The ChatGPT maker signed a seven-year, $38 billion deal with Amazon Web Services to power its AI ambitions after last week's restructuring gave the company more operational freedom.

The deal underscores what everyone in AI already knows: compute is the new oil, and OpenAI just secured a massive pipeline.

What's in the deal?

  • OpenAI will gain access to hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GPUs, including the cutting-edge GB200 and GB300 AI accelerators, with all capacity planned to be deployed by the end of 2026.

  • Amazon will provide OpenAI with EC2 UltraServers, featuring sophisticated clusters designed to support everything from ChatGPT responses to training next-generation models.

  • The agreement represents OpenAI's first major cloud partnership since its restructuring last week removed Microsoft's first right of refusal on compute services.

So What?

This is OpenAI's declaration of independence wrapped in a $38 billion bow.

While Microsoft remains a key partner, OpenAI is diversifying its infrastructure bets across AWS, Google Cloud, and Oracle—a smart move when you're planning to spend $1.4 trillion on computing resources.

Amazon's stock hit an all-time high on the news, adding nearly $140 billion in market value. For AWS, this is vindication; proof they haven't fallen behind Microsoft and Google in the AI infrastructure race. For OpenAI, it's insurance against putting all their eggs in one basket when the stakes are this astronomical.

How to Find Your Next Job with ChatGPT Atlas

OpenAI launched Atlas, its new AI-integrated browser that makes ChatGPT work natively across the web.

Available now on Mac, it's particularly powerful for job hunting since it can search, analyze, and organize information in real-time without you ever leaving the page.

Here's how to use it for job searching:

  1. Download Atlas from chatgpt.com/atlas (Mac only for now). When you open it for the first time, sign in to ChatGPT and import your bookmarks and passwords from your current browser.

  2. Open Atlas and click the agent mode button or simply ask ChatGPT to start. Agent mode lets ChatGPT take actions in your browser with you supervising.

  3. Give it a prompt like "Find me software engineering jobs with links to apply." ChatGPT will search the web in real-time, compile relevant job postings, extract apply links, and even identify potential referral contacts if you ask nicely!

Note: Atlas is currently available for Free, Plus, Pro, and Go users on macOS. Agent mode is in preview for Plus, Pro, and Business subscribers. Windows, iOS, and Android versions are coming soon.
