Demis Hassabis Just Dropped the AI Reality Check We Needed
DeepMind's CEO just painted the most ambitious picture of AI's future yet.
In a candid Guardian interview, Demis Hassabis claimed artificial intelligence will be "10 times bigger than the Industrial Revolution – and maybe 10 times faster."
And he’s not holding back on AGI timelines.
What's coming according to the DeepMind chief:
AGI could arrive in the next 5-10 years, "possibly the lower end of that" – meaning we're potentially in the final few years of pre-AGI civilization.
A world of "radical abundance" where AI solves nuclear fusion, creates room-temperature superconductors, and advances mathematics at unprecedented speeds.
AI energy costs will be "far outweighed" by the climate solutions these models will generate, despite massive datacenter power requirements.
So What?
Hassabis acknowledges the downsides but maintains his cautious optimism about humanity's ability to adapt. The interesting part? He admits if he'd had his way, they would have "left it in the lab for longer" before public release.
Instead, we're getting the real-time beta test of civilization-changing technology. His advice for the next generation is simply to become an AI "ninja" or risk being left behind in the post-scarcity world.

How to Edit Images in ChatGPT Like a Pro
So, not many people know this… but you can edit images in ChatGPT iteratively and on the spot!
With its paintbrush tool, you can make precise edits with out starting from scratch.
Here's how to master ChatGPT's image editor:
Start by creating an image with ChatGPT or uploading one to your conversation. Use the “Tools” on the bottom of the chat window and hit “Create Image”, then type a prompt. This is only available in the Web App.
Click directly on any ChatGPT-generated image to open the editor interface.
Use the Selection Tool: The paintbrush icon lets you select specific areas you want to edit.
Describe Your Changes: After selecting an area, describe what you want to change in the text box. Be specific about location if needed (e.g., "change the red car in the background to blue").
Review and Save: Use the Undo/Redo buttons to perfect your selection, then hit "Save" to apply changes.

Apple Goes Full Panic Mode on AI
Tim Cook held an emergency all-hands meeting last week telling Apple employees the company "must" win in AI. Translation: Apple knows it's getting absolutely crushed by the competition.
The desperation is showing through their latest moves to catch up in the AI race.
Apple is scrambling:
Cook's rare hourlong company-wide meeting explicitly stating "Apple must do this. Apple will do this. This is sort of ours to grab."
The delayed AI-powered Siri still doesn't have a release date, while competitors race ahead with working AI assistants.
Reports of a new "stripped-down rival to ChatGPT" in development by Apple's "Answers, Knowledge, and Information" team. 🧐
So What?
Cook's playing the classic Apple playbook – "We've rarely been first" but we make the "modern" versions. Problem is, AI isn't like phones or tablets where you can perfect hardware. This is a software arms race where being late might mean being irrelevant.
Apple's partnership with OpenAI feels more like a temporary band-aid while they figure out their own solution. The clock is ticking, and for once, Apple's perfectionist approach might be working against them.
